Mignon partnered with renowned journalist Soledad O’Brien on a design for the young women graduates of the Soledad O’Brien + Brad Raymond Starfish Foundation. The foundation provides the help and guidance that a select group of hardworking young women scholars need to succeed. Mignon’s design is inspired by the starfish story that guides Soledad’s cause:
Countless starfish have washed ashore on a beach and are dying off. A little boy is picking up starfish on the beach and tossing them back into the ocean in hopes they will survive. A man walks by and asks him why he is doing something so futile.
“There are hundreds,” he points out, “What difference will it make?”
The boy then picks up a starfish, throws it into the sea and says, “It will make a difference to that one.”
The sterling silver Starfish Pendant is accented with a deep blue crystal and strung on a silk ribbon. The design is dedicated to the gifted young ladies who participate in and excel under the Soledad O’Brien and Brad Raymond Foundation’s plan. Mignon Faget donated the necklaces to the foundation.
The Starfish Necklaces were gifted to this year’s graduating class of the scholarship and mentorship program during a New Orleans inspired gala held at Donna Karen’s Stephen Weiss Studios in Greenwich Village. Titled “New Orleans to New York City”, the event featured Creole cuisine and authentic New Orleans jazz. You can follow the foundation on Twitter, @SoledadFdn.
