Special Commission: Pascal’s Manale Restaurant

     PascalsManale100-year-logo-R3

To celebrate their 100 year anniversary, beloved New Orleans restaurant Pascal’s Manale enlisted Mignon Faget to design a limited edition set of double old fashioned glassware.

Pascal’s Manale is one of only a handful of surviving New Orleans neighborhood restaurants. Established in 1913, Pascal’s Manale has gifted New Orleans with culinary Pascal-Manale_2dishes that rightly received local and national notoriety. Currently in the fourth generation of ownership, the restaurant still sits quaintly on its corner of Napoleon and Dryades reminding its neighbors of a quieter time in New Orleans History. Pascal’s Manale is home to the original BBQ Shrimp and still shucks raw oysters at its original Raw Oyster Bar. 100 years later, Pascal’s Manale is still held dear by its neighbors and friends and will always be the “Uptown Rendezvous.”

SPECIAL COMMISSION: Starfish for Soledad O’Brien Foundation

Mignon partnered with renowned journalist Soledad O’Brien on a design for the young women graduates of the Soledad O’Brien + Brad Raymond Starfish Foundation. starfish on ribbon_1_2The foundation provides the help and guidance that a select group of hardworking young women scholars need to succeed.  Mignon’s design is inspired by the starfish story that guides Soledad’s cause:

Countless starfish have washed ashore on a beach and are dying off. A little boy is picking up starfish on the beach and tossing them back into the ocean in hopes they will survive. A man walks by and asks him why he is doing something so futile.

“There are hundreds,” he points out, “What difference will it make?”

The boy then picks up a starfish, throws it into the sea and says, “It will make a difference to that one.”

The sterling silver Starfish Pendant is accented with a deep blue crystal and strung on a silk ribbon.  The design is dedicated to the gifted young ladies who participate in and excel under the Soledad O’Brien and Brad Raymond Foundation’s plan.  Mignon Faget donated the necklaces to the foundation.

The Starfish Necklaces were gifted to this year’s graduating class of the scholarship and mentorship program during a New Orleans inspired gala held at Donna Karen’s Stephen Weiss Studios in Greenwich Village. Titled “New Orleans to New York City”, the event featured Creole cuisine and authentic New Orleans jazz. You can follow the foundation on Twitter, @SoledadFdn.

Special Commissions: World War II Museum Collection

WWII_logo_quick_reference-2

What better way to celebrate Independence Day than taking a trip to the National World War II Museum? The National World War II Museum is the country’s official museum of the Second World War. It tells the story of the American Experience and celebrates the American Spirit. “Founded by historian and author, Stephen Ambrose, the Museum tells the story of the America Experience in the war that changed the world – why it was fought, how it was won, and what it means today- so that all generations will understand the price of freedom and be inspired by what they learn,” according to their website. In 2000, the museum- then known as the National D-Day Museum- commissioned Mignon Faget to create special designs as gifts to dignitaries attending the official opening of this museum dedicated to World War II. Mignon designed a Higgins Boat pin and buckle to much acclaim.
